BIO
Brysen Boyd is TV writer, essayist and playwright originally from Tacoma, WA. He served on the writing staff for HBO’s SUCCESSION, in a position created for him, is the inaugural Playwright-in-Residence at Reverie Theater Company, a proud member of Youngblood/ Ensemble Studio Theater and was an Artist-in-Residence at Williamstown Theater Festival.
His plays include: FAMILY SIDESHOW (World Premiere, Kansas City Melting Pot Theatre, Playwrights’ Center Venturous Prize Nomination, Juilliard Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program Finalist; O’Neill National Playwrights Conference Semi-Finalist), A NAKED MAN IN HIS EARLY 80S (2025 Valdez Theatre Conference; Semi-Finalist, Princess Grace Award, Finalist, Ojai Playwrights’ Festival, Downtown Urban Arts Festival Finalist), RD/SUITE MEETING (World Premiere, Reverie Theater Group, Page 73 Finalist), LE GIRLS (Semi-Finalist, Ojai Playwrights’ Festival). and others. His work has been recognized or received support from The Orchard Project, National Black Theatre, Tin House, The Kennedy Center, Sewanee Writers Conference, Columbia University, Napa Valley Writers Conference, Seattle Playwrights’ Saloon, Playwrights Studio Scotland, Citizens Theatre (Scotland) and others. His nonfiction has appeared or is forthcoming in The Kenyon Review, The Florida Review, Orca: A Literary Journal, and he is currently at work on a book-length nonfiction project.
Having come to playwriting and creative nonfiction in undergrad by way of his first love, TV, his goal in life is to write stories that make others feel as excited as 9-year-old him felt when watching David and Keith on SIX FEET UNDER. Writing means everything to him—second only to his miniature wiener dogs, Simon and Alvin.
